Client's Need:

Eddie Bauer sought a carbon footprint and the creation of a climate and ESG strategy that aligned with their brand image and exceed customer and investor expectations.

About the Project

Shift Advantage worked with Eddie Bauer to create a sustainability vision that aligned with their brand values. We developed a sustainability roadmap that included an action plan with short-, medium-, and long-term goals; as well as key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track results.


Carbon Footprint & SBTs: Shift Advantage calculated the carbon footprint of Eddie Bauer’s products, packaging, and operations. This Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory followed WRI's GHG Protocol. We established Science Based Targets (SBTs) for emissions reductions that align with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

Climate & ESG Strategy: Shift Advantage engaged and collaborated with leadership to develop a sustainability vision, ESG roadmap with tangible and actionable steps, and methods of tracking progress over time. To inform this work, we lead a stakeholder engagement process to identify issues important to Eddie Bauer; as well as competitive benchmarking analysis to assess and compare the sustainability performance of peer brands and retailers. 



Carbon Footprint & SBTs: The carbon footprint enabled Eddie Bauer to understand its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, identify hotspots, uncover opportunities for improvement, set a baseline for tracking progress year over year, and publish external reports. The GHG inventory was used to establish Science Based Targets (SBTs) to reduce Eddie Bauer’s carbon footprint. We identified operational changes and improvements, product and supply chain initiatives, and energy procurement strategies that enabled Eddie Bauer to achieve the reduction targets.


Climate & ESG Strategy: Through a collaborative process we developed Eddie Bauer’s sustainability vision that aligned with the brand’s ethos and provided a North Star for leadership. We create strategic priorities and achievable goals that aligned with the brand’s business objectives. The deliverables included customized action plans, key performance indicators (KPIs), frameworks for tracking and analyzing progress over time, and specific targets. This work provided the information and data needed for external reporting of Eddie Bauer’s climate and ESG initiatives.
